jef’s parents came to visit, and our house will never be the same.
we had two tasks: wallpaper the dining room and tear a huge shrub out of the backyard. here’s how the wallpapering went…
first we had to strip the window and door frame; otherwise we’d be using heat guns right next to the wallpaper later on, in order to get the paint off.
jim is an expert wallpaper hanger, which is good since our room presented a few problems. the arches turned out to be a cinch. but none of the corners were straight, and he had to do quite a lot of calculating and fudging to get everything to match up.
we also had to innovate a way around the doorframe and window. jef’s idea of holding the paper up to the wall and cutting it dry, then pasting it up, worked out great. we all learned something about wallpaper.
partway through the job, when we had to remove the thermostat from the wall, jef used a multi-meter to figure out which wires to connect to keep the air conditioner running.
and then, the celebration:
and here’s the finished room:
I love it! That wallpaper is fantastic. Where did you get it? (I’m also in love with your dining room set.)
Yes, Anne is so right. your dining room set is amazing! and the wallpaper looks wonderful!!
thanks!
the wallpaper is from http://www.johnny-tapete.de (german site with some english). they sell new old-stock wallpaper, and their selection rotates.
LOOOOOVVVVE it – the paper, the set, the green chair in the front room (hey, I’m LOOKING at these pictures).
You should keep Jef’s parents … good help is hard to find. :-)
You should probably keep Jef, too.
really nice. I like the way it plays off your arched and curved doorways- a little moorish/spanish element. Totally stylin’
Wow, guys I am totally awed!!! The wallpaper looks absolutely gorgeous!
You really outdid yourselves this time…(especially rewiring the thermostat–yep Alicia…he’s a keeper!)
Jef – your parents are “da bomb”…(you know, that is gonna be one tough act to follow – next weekend – even WITH a pool!!)
I love the colors together with your dining set, too! It really sets it off nicely.
Can’t wait to be there…
By the way, Alicia, you looked so cute holding the wallpaper by the table…you had the same look on your face as you did when you were little…
Love, mom
Great job! I’ve never attempted wallpapering but I’m sure it’s a bit more complex that just slapping some glued paper to the wall, lol!
