perspective

the funny thing about planning a party is that it makes you realize how long your to do list really is.

our housewarming party is now 2.571428 weeks, or 18 days, away. in that time we’re hoping to…

  • finish stripping, staining, and shellacking the living room and dining room windows (almost done)
  • strip, stain, and shellac the living/dining room baseboards (a huge task!)
  • figure out what to do for living/dining room drapes
  • paint the kitchen
  • buy or make kitchen curtains
  • revitalize the lawn
  • finally get our front-yard dirt pile to go down
  • sod the front yard
  • clear out the basement (i.e., organize the stuff that’s still packed and put it where it belongs)
  • clean up the attic
  • maybe hang some pictures, help the place look like we actually live there

rather a lot to do in 2.571428 weeks, don’tcha think? not to mention that we’ll be hosting guests this weekend (hi mom and dad). they’re going to help us paint the kitchen, so that’ll be great.

we’re also getting really tired of our modern aluminum storm door. it doesn’t lend anything to the look of the house. maybe we’ll end up with something like this.

we need something that will be a storm door in winter and a screen door in summer, so we’ll be looking for a version with removable glass and screen inserts. i think there’s a good candidate at www.vintagewoodworks.com. it would be great to have a new storm door before the party. if i happen to become an insomniac in the next couple days, maybe i’ll be able to make it happen.

wish us luck!

  1. I just posted about my first party. It was a great way to meet some deadlines, but as the big day approached I concentrated on atmosphere. Flowers and more flowers, good china, and good food and drink. Good luck! from Jane
